Daniel Korff, Ph.D., joined Marian University in the Fall of 2024. A recent graduate from Colorado School of Mines with his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, Dr. Korff is driven to help students develop the skills they need to be successful, values-oriented leaders. At Colorado School of Mines his research field was numerical modeling of batteries, with a particular focus on lithium-sulfur batteries and a dissertation titled “Identifying Thermo-Kinetic Parameters in Lithium-Sulfur Battery Models with Optimization Algorithms and the Effect on Model Predictive Capability.” During his time at Colorado School of Mines, Dr. Korff spent three semesters as a TA and was a member of the Colorado Reacting flows, Electrochemistry, and Surface science research group, led by Dr. Steven C. DeCaluwe.
Between his time at Rose-Hulman and Colorado School of Mines, Dr. Korff worked as a mechanical designer for United Technologies Electronic Controls in Fort Wayne, Indiana. There he worked on designing components and layouts for control boxes of commercial air conditioning units. Other work Dr. Korff has done includes software development automating web service interaction for employee systems at the Fellowship of Catholic University Students. With a broad background of experience in academic and industry settings, he hopes to share with students the variety of ways they can have an impact using the skills they learn at the E. S. Witchger School of Engineering.
